Early Childhood and School Age Assessment
An educational assessment is the integration of neuropsychological and educational principles to the assessment and intervention processes to facilitate learning and behaviour within the school and family systems. This type of evaluation assesses a child’s functioning in major areas of higher-level brain functioning including memory, attention, impulse control, speed and efficiency of mental processing, language, visual-spatial skills, visual-motor coordination, planning, and organization. Evaluation includes a detailed investigation of a child’s developmental, medical, social, and psychological history and access to an extensive array of specific tests. Results obtained in a school psychological evaluation provide the information needed to generate a very comprehensive description of a child’s cognitive abilities, learning style, current needs and specific interventions needed. The report can be used to assist in the application for funding for children with disabilities, where applicable.
Behavioural Assessments
Assessments for children who are suspected of having developmental delays, Autism, oppositional behaviour problems or Attention Deficit involve clinical interviews with parents, structured observations at the clinic, and observations of the child in the their kinder or school settings. Parents and teachers, or carers, are asked to complete standardised questionnaires to gather comprehensive information about the child which is then presented in a report for referring paediatricians who in conjunction with other professionals confirm the diagnosis.
Adult Assessments
Christine Grant can also provide assessments of cognitive abilities, learning disabilities and assessments for Autism and ADHD for adults.
